Another fine day at the farmers’ market and another chance to make these delicious plums which I ate for Sunday supper. The addition of cumin is surprising but surprisingly nice! Serve with cream or ice cream – organic if you must! I eat mine on its own.

Serves 4-6
- 1 bag of plums, probably 1/2 kg, halved and pitted
- 1/2 cup, or more to cover the bottom of the dish, orange juice
- 2 tbsp brown sugar – or less deposing on sweetness of plums
- 1/2 tsp cinnamon
- 1/8 tsp nutmeg
- 1/8 tsp cumin
- 5 cardamon pods, crushed
- 2 star anise
- toasted slivered almonds (optional)
First prepare the plums, and preheat oven to 200 C.
Next, whisk together the orange juice, sugar and spices and then pour over the plums.
Cook for 20 mins until slightly caramelised and bubbling
Garnish with toasted slivered almonds if you like.
